
About Shannon
Having found a passion in chamber performance, flutist and Miyazawa Emerging Artist Shannon Lotti performs regularly with her flute, cello, and piano trio, Spectra Trio, and her flute and piano duo, Duo Aequalis. Spectra Trio has been featured on WGTE radio, and Duo Aequalis recently appeared in recital for the exhibition opening Machine Auguries at the Toledo Museum of Art. Spectra Trio is preparing to record their debut album with an expected release date of Spring 2026.
Shannon is a laureate of many national and international competitions including 1st prize in the 2024 Atlanta Flute Club Young Artist Competition, 2023 Central Ohio Flute Association Competition, 2022 South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition, 2nd prize in the 2023 Florida Flute Association’s Nancy Clew Eller Artist Competition. She was also a quarterfinalist in the 2023 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition.
As a teacher, Shannon strives to meet student’s individual needs, working together to create lessons filled with the music that will motivate them while also helping them to learn new topics. She maintains a private lesson studio with students in multiple states who she teaches both in person and online. Shannon places an emphasis on developing efficient and effective practice strategies so her students can reach the next level in their performances. She is passionate about ensuring students are taught about how to relieve tension and remove pain.
Shannon is a DMA candidate studying Contemporary Music at Bowling Green State University. Her doctoral document topic focuses around practice strategies in college students who began private study on their instrument at or after age 16 with a focus on student perceptions of effective practice strategies. She frequently presents workshops featuring her warm-ups and strategies to combat practice anxiety and how to approach the practice room with an open mind and an eagerness to make mistakes.
